Dieting

There are so many dieting possibilities that one can get confused, high-protein diets, low-fat diets, all-vegetable diets, no-carb diets, no dairy diets or no starch diets,  focusing so much on dieting, how does one  figure out what's really healthy and what´s not?

Tons of people feel pressured to lose weight and so they try many different types of diets.  If you really need to lose some extra weight, try improving your eating habits and exercise, keep yourself in movement, this will help you much more than any diet.

Why Do People Diet?

There are many reasons why people diet. Some are because of over weight and need to pay closer attention to their eating and exercise habits. Some people diet because they practise sports and need to be in top physical condition. Others may think they would look and feel better if they loss a few pounds.

Some people may diet because their profession require them to look a certain way. Actors and actresses normally are skinny, and most fashions shows are shown off by very skimpy models.  This look is unrealistic for most people and it can be physically and mentally damaging to the models and stars who struggle to maintain it.

Most teenage girls, round the age of 12 and 13 start to go through body changes that are natural and necessary: Their hips broaden, their breasts develop, and suddenly the way they look may not match girls on TV or in magazines. Boys develop at a different pace than girls.

Can Diets Be Unhealthy?

Any diet in which you eat less calories than you need to get through the day, eg,our bodies need more than 800 calories so if you are doing a 800-calorie-per-day diet, for instance it can be dangerous for your health. A total fat free diet, that don't allow any fat can also can be bad for you. Everyone needs a certain amount of fat in their diet,  up to 30% of total of calories, so no one should eat a completely fat-free diet.

One should also avoid diets that restrict certain or any kind of food groups, or diets that requires you to not eat bread or pasta or only allows you to eat fruit is very unhealthy, you won't get the vitamins and minerals that your body needs and although you may lose weight, you'll probably gain it back as soon as you start eating normally again.

Some people think that their weight is the root of all their problems so they sometimes do crazy diets.  Others might have other areas of their lives that they can't control, so they focus exclusively on something they can control — their exercise and food intake.

Family and friends might praise people who diet and start lose pounds and this makes them feel good but, eventually a person reaches a weight plateau, which means that our body  doesn't lose as much weight as before because the body is trying to maintain a healthy weight. People in these situations eventually discover that, even if they do lose weight, they aren't any happier.

Some people may find it hard to control their eating habits, so they stick with an extreme diet for a while, but soon after they start to eat tons of food again, which makes them feel guilty about the binge, so they vomit or use laxatives. Eating too little to maintain a healthy weight can cause anorexia and eating only to throw up the calories causes bulimia, these are both eating disorders, which are harmful to any person's health. Someone with an eating disorder needs medical treatment immediately.

So How Can one Lose Weight Safely?

When you're a teenager, dieting can be very dangerous because you may not get the right kinds or amounts of nutrients and vitemins that a growing body needs, which can lead to poor growth and other health problems. But eating healthy meals and snacks combined with reasonable amounts of exercise can help you lose weight and develop properly at the same time. For some people, just for the fact of being more active  helps them to lose weight without even changing what they eat. Regular exercise can also help them feel healthier and better about themselves.

The best way to diet is to eat a wide variety and enough food to meet your body's needs. Aim to eat more fruits and veggies, cut back on meats high in fat like burgers and hot dogs, greasy fried foods, and sweets, and drink more water instead of sugary drinks like sodas and sports drinks.
If you are concerned about your body's size or think that you need to lose weight, talk with your doctor or a registered dietitian, who make sure you that you are at a healthy weight. Or if you are overweight, your docter can also sit down with you and determine the best way for you to reach a healthy weight.
